If we had to, it would be that it may not be a surefire upgrade for anyone who already has an 8, but for folks with older Apple Watch models this isn't a bad choice for an upgrade (especially since the Apple Watch 10 may not turn out to be all we hoped). Why we like it
It may not come in pink like the Series 9, but feature-wise you're not getting a vastly different experience with the Series 8 (though we do wish it had double tap). The Series 8 has hit some impressive lows this holiday shopping season — bottoming out at $225 — but at the time of writing, $309 is the best price you can get on this smartwatch. If you want fitness features but don't want to shell out the extra $30 for a 45mm Series 9, this is the watch for you.

Looking for a smartwatch without too many features, but still gets the job done, and at a price you'll like? It exists in the Apple Watch SE. You'll get all the must-have features you need like health tracking, crash detection, Smart Stack, and emergency SOS options. Sure, you won't get an always-on display or a blood oxygen app, but you'll be paying a good $80 less than you would for a Series 9. Why we like it
The Apple Watch Ultra has an ultra-high price point, but that's because it truly is built different. Not intended for everyday use, this watch for more intense athletes has an extra-bright 3,000 nit display, an S9 chip, Double Tap functionality, and 72 total hours of battery life (if used in low power mode). Even on sale, this price is nearly double that of the Series 9's MSRP, so we would really only recommend this watch for outdoor sports enthusiasts and adventurers.
